Supergirl # 8

In this issue we see Supergirl struggling to choose between her morality and her Kryptonian family in a twisted sort of way. Superman’s alter ego is pretty much on an insanity level, and we see him in all his evil glory. Think Darkseid but not as methodical.
The character who says she is Kal-El’s mother seems to be nothing more than a sadistic telepath who is controlling Kara Zor-El and her alternate timeline cousin Kal-El.
Supergirl overcomes the mind control witch and whips some butt! Then the issue ends with our heroine changing her attitude completely about everything wrong that just happened to her.
So basically we have a different penciller for this issue, which kind of offsets the series if you collect it, but if not it doesn’t matter since Ron Adrian’s style is very detailed.
In my opinion the story is poor compared with other Supergirl stories and it seems like an awkward and rushed ending to the 3 part mini series about Candor. I also feel that Supergirl needs to be using more of her powers. What happened to super speed, heat vision, etcetera?!
The idea for this story was good, but wasn’t properly executed.
Art 7/10 - Where’s Ian Churchill?
Story 4/10 - Nothing too ground breaking here. Sorry.
Overall 5/10 - The series takes a fatal blow with this one. Let’s see if issue #9 is better!
