Crossgen has been investing and promoting what I call its new wave of comics unrelated to their original universe non stop. They're doing a great job and the work they publish is deservedly impressive. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a James Bond like tale set in good old England with Basildon, one of Britain's best spy saving the world weekly and leading his partners to death.

This issue introduces Charles Basildon's support staff from the famous M16 agency and his newest partner/sidekick, beautiful Stephanie Shelley. Shelley's main job, besides surviving the high death rate of Basildon's partners is to keep England's best spy and greatest womanizer in check. The story's villain looks like the Matrix's twins, but with far more cruelty and brains.

Mike Perkins' visuals match Tony Bedard's script perfectly. This is what comics are made of. His style is a realistic and modern take on Neal Adams but without the intricate page layout but enough vitality and storytelling finesse to portray a wide range of characters, including Sean Connery. At times I also wondered if this wasn't Rags Morales' long lost twin doing the work.
