X-Treme X-Men #38
By Kevin Scott
December 30, 2003 - 16:40
This is the Arena, where gladiators pit their might against each other in a brutal but sometimes deadly form of entertainment. So what would Storm a member of the X-Treme X-Men be doing in there!?!
I will be the first to admit that at times in his X-Treme run Claremont's writing has become a little wooden. In this arc though, he has truly shown he really knows and can get inside his characters and also, that, he is still one of the best writers out there. In this issue we get a little more in touch with Storms inner self. She has many shades of self, but when the rage is unleashed can it be tamed again? Is she truly helpless in her situation, I mean, Callisto is looking pretty damn mean. End of the day though, has anyone really found a way to trap a fierce Storm?
More of the same goodness from Kordy here. All the energy of the fights is captured superbly and there really is a ferocity embedded within each scene. At first it seems that Callisto is wooden of expression, even though she moves well and all her tentacles are shown to be free moving entities, but when you realise everything behind this, you can see Kordy has done well. At the end you can see the pent up aggression, hatred and frustration within the eyes, even thought the facial expressions say something else. And that is talent.
