Kara Zor-El helps a fellow Kryptonian who appears to be plagued by a supernatural curse, but in reality is something all to real in one of the best single issues of a Supergirl series since Jamal Igle and Sterling Gates wrote and drew her adventures.

The best use of the old Red Kryptonite trope in a Superman Family comic book since...well, ever...and a challenge that causes Kara to use her mind and heroic spirit to save the day rather than just her super powers and wow...just wow...Supergirl #7 is phenomenal. This is the type of Superman Family story that the cast of characters was created in order to tell.  Supergirl, as a character and series, hasn't read this well in years. Steve Orlando manages to give Kara the heart and mindfulness that she has been desperately missing since the launch of The New 52. Rebirth? Indeed.

Matias Bergara's art fit the theme and setting, as well as characteristics, of the story, although it borders on the cartoonish a little too much for my taste. His characters are a little more impressionistic looking than realistic, and while this style easily fits a whole host of comic book themes and stories, I'm not convinced...yet...that it is right for what is basically a sci-fi story and series.

Enjoyable, smart, and packed with heart and wit, it's rare that a Superman Family story at this point can actually ad something to the Superman mythos. Steve Orlando manages to do this in Supergirl #7, once again proving that Superman has one of the best supporting casts in the history of comics. They are actually capable of sustaining great stories themselves.
