ULTIMATE X-MEN #47: THE TEMPEST
Mutants are turning up dead all over New York City. Someone is targeting them. When Charles Xavier learns of this, he puts his X-Men on the trail of the killer. But are Xavier's children of the atom the hunters - or the hunted?
The thing about this issue is, it's not explosive, it's not setting the earth quaking, but it is a nice evolution of the story. Vaughan lets things grow in an organic fashion from the last issue. We also get to see all the X-Men together, which adds another facet to the story. Vaughan starts the book in an interesting way that automatically grabs your attention. And he ends on the same not, primed and ready for more information and the next issue.
The feeling the art induces within you, mirror's the sense of gritty realism that Vaughan is conjuring up in his stories. The colour pallet is subdued and sombre, which is a perfect fit. Patterson's pencils really hit and offer us a glimpse into the physicey of the characters. You can see a hardness, and detachment within Storm, that really sums up her whole vibe right now. The Xavier, Fury conversation and the way it happens is also a nice touch.
