ULTIMATE X-MEN #49: THE TEMPEST

This epic showdown finds a master assassin with the X-Men firmly in his sights!
With each issue of this arc Vaughan has grown and this is so clear with this issue. Each character has a distinct voice and the threads that make them who they are, is an enticing draw of his writing. The story had a good progression and the reader is always kept engrossed. The character interaction was really good. The opening diatribe between Xavier and Sinister had a great edge. And the ending, was it delusion or reality!?!

As with Vaughan, Peterson has truly blossomed as this arc has gone on. He's grasp of the characters is definitely on point as we witness Sinister attack the Institute. The frantic proceedings are captured in a way that projects all the feelings of the moment to the reader. And the last page has a real haunting aspect to it, which helps add to the wondering of Sinister's mind state.
