Justice League Elite #7

While infiltrating some interplanetary drug-dealers, half of the JL Elite get teleported to a giant spaceship, leaving the rest to scramble around, looking for a way to rescue them. This issue is actually a lot easier to read than previous issues. with a minimum of flashbacks and abrupt cut-aways that have made past issues difficult to follow. Some of the dialogue is still too "clever" to follow, especially of the ranting alien druglord. There is still no attempt to fill in the reader on what happened earlier, a serious mistake in this title where so many plotlines are scattered all over the place. Kelly also assumes that any reader must have been following the Elite since they made their debut in ACTION COMICS all those years ago. Most readers however will be wondering why Vera is suddenly asking for a "fag" in the last panel. The suspense over the alien druglord, the murderer in the Elite's ranks and the threat of the real JLA closing them down still isn't pressing. Sadly, the most interesting subplot still concerns Manitou Raven's spouse, Dawn, who is now playing Desperate Housewife. The art is great, as usual, especially the depiction of Vera and Dawn. But this title still feels like it is just marking time until something better shows up.
