Back in the flooded city of New Orleans, Black Panther and several other black heroes mount their final attack against the Southern vampire clan attempting to profit from the desolation caused by the Katrina hurricane. Can Black Panther, Luke Cage, Brother Voodoo and Blade stop the plotting vampires and their human partners from taking over new Orleans?

This story was quite fun because it mixed current events, Hudlin’s political message and comic book super heroics all in once. It also raised more questions. Brother Voodoo is one of those old 1970s Black Exploitation Marvel character that no one sees anymore. Yet this story with Blade was one where his presence was the most logical. Like many readers this was my first exposure to the character. The Hudlin update, if there is one worked. Elsewhere, I like the pep talk the panther gave to the former Captain Marvel. Hudlin’s strength is tying everything in one story without making his stories seem full of comic book cliches. Writers like Geoff Johns also like to tie many disparate threads together, but it usually seems forced and shallow.

The artwork is great. The mix of Eaton and Janson made the artwork look-like Brent Anderson had drawn it. Again Blade looks like Wesley Snipe. It’s fun to see Marvel conforming to that look for the character. I always liked how Peter Parker always looked like Peter Parker no matter what book he was in. With Blade, this is happening and the character can grow from being just another generic looking black guy to a real multidimensional character.
