THOR: SON OF ASGARD #1 – 6: THE WARRIORS
After their adventures across the wilds of Asgard, its back to school for Thor, Balder and Sif... but when you're in training to be a warrior, study hall isn't so quiet! The lives of the three young friends takes an interesting turn when Amora the Enchantress enters the picture. Sparks will fly when their schooling in swords and sorcery comes head-to-head in this all-new three-issue arc.
After telling such a really good story in your first arc, the pressure is on for the next. Some crumble to this pressure, but Akria Yoshida isn’t one of them. Again the magic of Asgard flows through this story, but here we don’t have quests for mystical materials. Here we get something everyone can relate too and it’s a quest of the heart. Who yearns for whom though? The reasons are conveyed in a nice way and we can definitely relate to the character who feels unrequited. We get to see a flashback to a moment in history that was the catalyst for these feelings as well. Oh and did I say a familiar face while turn up, no, well they do :)
This story arc is entitled Enchanted, but its not just Loki and Amora who weave spells, as Greg Tocchini continues to capsulate with his magic pencils. It just exhumes the perfect youthful air, combined with fun and riddled with angst. We’re able to tell the mood of a character, jus by the slant of their mouth or by looking in their eyes and that show’s real talent. In the last issue there’s a really nice full page shot of Sif and Amora, which really epitomises the whole art. Yet again we’re given great covers, the best I believe is issue #8 (the one above).
