It’s time off for the Dark Avengers as they relax in the original Avengers’ tower while their boss Norman Osborn give an interview to the media, hoping to salvage his reputation in light of accusations by Clint Barton. But will the American public buy into Osborn’s redemption as a champion of the America? And while the team gets to know each other, some more intimately than others, there’s a new invasion town. Will the Dark Avengers be up to the task?
I hate when I like something written by Bendis. I can see his technique all over. He slowly introduces plots elements and themes that will be used later. He’s not trying to hide anything under the reader’s nose. We know it will all play a part later. But what annoys me is that I’ve read this game plan before in Daredevil and then in the various Avengers’ series prior Secret Invasion. Still, it’s as compelling as ever as the object is completely different, even if the means are the same.
Deodato is a good artist. He continues to build upon the facial representation of Osborn as Nixon crossed with some Tommy Lee Jones. It’s priceless and how I envision the character from now on. The mood here reminded me of the current Captain America run but with less beautiful colouring. Still this is a good layout and with good pacing.
