Daredevil: Hardcore

Over the last two years, Bendis and Maleev have been building up a major Daredevil epic based on the most popular themes and stories originating from the characters since his conception in 1964. They have foreshadowed the confrontation of the Kingpin for some time now. Bendis and Maleev finally deliver, and we even get Typhoid Mary and Bullseyes tagging along.

This storyline moves more swiftly than other Daredevil stories by Bendis. If there is one criticism about Bendis’ work on Daredevil, it is that his strength is revisiting old Daredevil stories and reviensioning them. The fall of the Kingpin, the outing of Daredevil, the final confrontation with Typhoid Mary were all done before. The difference is that Bendis does it better.

Maleev doesn’t deceive. His action scenes still seem more cinematic than comic bookish, which is hard to grasp at time. It feels like one reads a storyboard instead of a comic book. There is also much confusion with the page design. One never knows whether panels spread on two pages or are confined to a single page. The guest artists’ work at the end while touching, is out of sync.
