Daredevil #66-70

Leaping off the pages of last month’s anniversary special, we follow Matt Murdock through a story that literally spans the entire history of Marvel. Who was the Kingpin before the Kingpin and what was his relationship to Matt Murdock? Find out right here. This was an enthralling tale, which was indeed an epic spanning chronicle. The story was about a thirst for revenge and what brought this thirst to be. Alexander Bonet was nothing, then became the man, he was the Top Dog………the Kingpin, before there even was one. His reign was brought to an end by the Devil……a Daredevil and now he’s out he wants retribution. And we get to see this journey from beginning to the end. You’d think that was enough to fill out these five issues, but there’s another facet to this story. There’s a struggle going on within a character. They need to come to terms with a heritage, which has changed the way they look at everything. By the end of this story, do we have ourselves a new superhero!?! It will be interesting to see the ramifications from this story and if Murdock is vilified or redeemed. And does the last page mean someone’s coming back!?!
Its only fitting, that with this story, is attached some of Maleev’s best work. The grittiness, the tension and raw passion just jumps off the page at you. You really do feel this story. This is different to Maleev’s usually work though. The story takes place in different periods of time and that is clearly reflected to the reader. The very beginning of this story is set; it would seem, just at the beginning of WWII. So we see events transpire in black & white. The next stage of the story, the middle, is colour but it is reminiscent of the early colour comics. We get the bolder colours and even the dot matrix affect of colouring. The modern day events have a current depiction that has accompanied Maleev throughout his run on the book. All of this gives a fantastic feel to the story and this is added to by some of the best Daredevil covers to date.
