Loki asks Hela to turn him into his male former form so he can travel to the past and take care of some family business. Loki is about to set up his future by telling the young Loki what he needs to do to become Odin’s adopted son. Will Loki’s plan work?
Straczynski pulls a back to the future in this issue. It’s the chicken and egg debate. Loki is responsible for Loki’s origin. I don’t like stories like that. It feels like Barry Allen the Flash being responsible for his own origin. Loops only bring trouble. But to Straczynski’s credit, he has worked on developing this subplot remarkably well since he reintroduced Loki. My only question is where is Thor in all this and why hasn’t he gotten smart about Loki’s backroom manoeuvres yet?
Coipel is my favourite Thor artist. I think I’ve said that about him every time I’ve’ reviewed his work. He brings dignity to Thor and makes this series look much more classic and epic-like than other Marvel Comics series. I would say his contribution here will help this current incarnation of Thor be what Frank Miller’s run was for Daredevil. His work is simply majestic. By the way, I like how he draws the young Loki and how he draws his eyes.
