Steve Rogers, the first Captain America recruits the new team of Avengers for a new world order, but before he can put his plans into motion, Kang, the old Avengers’ time traveling villain pays the team a visit requesting the Avengers’ aid to defeat their descendants. Will the Avengers acquiesce to his demand?

It’s interesting to see the switch to a more super heroic threat this issue compared to the political and existential crisis that the old Avengers faced. Clearly, this heroic spin on the Avengers is meant to make their threats much more lighter and traditional than the adult and serious stuff we’ve been reading for years. I was afraid that this would be a watered down comic book. It’s not. The tone is serious, but the there is nothing that will annoy parents or make this comic book unapproachable for younger readers. It’s a good mix and Bendis who’s more known for his mature storyline excels here. An important question that I’ve got is what about Ms. Marvel? Is she part of this team or not?

Marvel usually relies on Romita when it wants to push a comic book out there. Romita delivers, of course, thinking ahead, this may not be a wise decision as we know Romita will probably leave in about six issues and the artists left to pick up the slack, while probably good will probably drive the sales of this series down. Wouldn’t it be better to build this series from the ground up with a regular artistic team committed to stick around for a while instead of borrowing a popular name to jump start a new franchise?

Rating: 8.5 /10
