Keaton and Vic both complete their missions and reach their objectives. A new mission looms though. It's a mission that Keaton is uniquely qualified to undertake...alone.

Joshua Williamson and Jason Shawn Alexander's Vertigo Comics series Frostbite might not have been the most original story told about a post apocalyptic world, even if it did have a unique premise that turned the whole "climate change disaster" trope on its head, but it was one of the best looking and well paced stories published by Vertigo Comics in decades. This is the type of edgy (looking, at least) sci-fi series that Vertigo Comics needs more of in order to elevate itself back to the level of premiere indie styled publisher. It's a title that Image Comics has owned for several years now, but that Vertigo hasn't quite given up on recapturing yet.

As stated, the story here isn't all that original in its execution and plot, but was paced well and brought to life beautifully. I've been a fan of Jason Shawn Alexander since I first saw his work on Empty Zone from Image Comics. His style was a little more conservative on Frostbite than it was on Empty Zone, but nevertheless remained as immediately recognizable, and striking, as Todd McFarlane or Jim Lee's work was when it debuted decades ago. Yes, Alexander is on that level. I can only hope that he does more mainstream publisher work, as well as a sequel to Frostbite.

Will there be a sequel to Frostbite? I certainly hope so, and Williamson definitely leaves the possibility of there being a Frostbite 2 open. Keaton and Vic's current objectives might be met, but there's plenty more to be done to redeem the frozen world they inhabit.  I for one can only hope that we get to see the next chapter in their story sooner than later.

Rating: 9 /10
