Justice League of America # 55

Eclipso and his gang of shadow-powered cronies goes after Jade and the magical city on the Moon. Just as Doomsday shows up, attacking the JLA and the Green Lantern Corps.

The story is a bit unwieldy, dealing with two different threats simultaneously. While there may be a connection between Doomsday and Eclipso, we don't see it. Instead, it looks like the League just happened to get hit from two sides at the exact same time. That isn't necessarily a bad thing as it shows how the team would deal with more than one threat at a time.

It also helps that Robinson is one of the few remaining writers who still uses narrative captions. We really need these captions explaining what is going on since the art is a bit lacking in this area. The small panels and vague backgrounds often make it hard to tell when the setting of the story has changed, so we can't immediately tell that Supergirl's battle with Doomsday is actually taking place many miles from Eclipso's invasion.

The story still could have spent more time filling us in on the details-- like why Doomsday has the power of flight, like who this Green Lantern Boodika is or this Blue Lantern guy is and so on. The big revelation-- about the Cyborg Superman, is also spoiled-- by the cover no less!

It really looks like the whole 'Reign of Doomsday' storyline was just shoe-horned into an existing JLA story, much like the recent 'Blackest Night' and 'Cry for Justice' stories. Hopefully, the writer can work around this so we get a tale that effectively shows how the League can adapt to changing situations and not some ramshackle story that looks like it was patched together at the last minute.
