Normally I make every effort to steer clear of spoilers, but in this case, I’ll make an exception.

***SPOILER ALERT***

Hal Jordan loses. But if you've gotten this far in my review, you probably already figured that out. But it’s not really much of a spoiler, given that there are countless stories of heroes who are seemingly beaten, only to rise above defeat and be victorious. Lose the battle, win the war, that sort of thing. And Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #3 is but one chapter in a larger story.

It’s a battle. Lots of panels of people facing off one another, of weapons aimed, weapons fired, weapons failure. It’s a mercifully quick read to the end in which the power of the Sinestro Corps overwhelms Hal Jordan.

Meanwhile, two other things occur: Guy Gardner faces off against a handful of faceless foes, and Sinestro entertains a delegation who will apparently support his new policy of fear setting the laws of the universe. The Guy Gardner moment is so minimal as to be misplaced, in my opinion. If there is no intent to elaborate, why include it?

To the credit of Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona and Tomeu Morey, the artwork is amazingly consistent. They’ve managed to generate quality work in a short amount of time. Hopefully, this trend will continue.
