Daredevil confronts the old Black Panther villain Klaw which is trying to reconstitute his body using Daredevil as a beacon. But how can Daredevil fight a villain whose very power overload his super senses?

I like Daredevil and that’s why I’m still reading this series. Waid’s Daredevil is not bad, but definitely more super heroic and less vigilante. This entire story, including the cover, felt like I was reading a comic book from the 1980s or 1990s. It’s basic super heroic material with a boring protagonist who could be exchanged. It’s like reading about Barry Allen the Flash or Hal Jordan the Green Lantern decades ago. There is just enough motivation and cunning in the hero to prove why he is a hero, but there is still no soul to this comic book. Mind you, there are some good touches here and there, like Daredevil speaking very loudly after his encounter with Klaw. I also like the proactive way Matt Murdoch figured to help his client. However, the whole case was resolved quickly and left the villain free to attack another day.  I see potential in this series and it really is not bad at all. But I expect more from a Daredevil series and so far, Waid is just proving how an accomplish writer he is, able to whip out a solid script about Daredevil that is decent and well constructed. The only thing is that Waid forgot to put some soul in Daredevil. In hindsight, I realize that much of Waid’s work on Amazing Spider-man was similar but I never really complained. But because I care so much about Daredevil, the stakes are higher.

Rivera is great at action. I like how he drew the decomposing sound-based villain. That’s some ingenious design. However, he should not be doing any more cover for Daredevil. This one was so uninspired that were this series not already in my pull list, I would not have picked up this book based on its cover. It’s really an ugly cover that feels like it’s from a 1980s comic book.

Rating: 8 /10
