Bart finally dons the costume of the Flash and rushes to the rescue of a bombed STAR laboratories, even if he is still reluctant to assume the identity of the hero. Meanwhile, a hot-headed friend of Bart's decides to use his new super-powers to become a hero himself-- even if his actions end up endangering more innocent people than he rescues. The story is still building up a little too slowly but at least we can see where the plot is going. The supporting cast is being built up as well and so far, it looks quite strong. It is especially good to see that Jay Garrick is still very much a part of this cast. The big surprise in this issue is fill-in artist Karl Kerschl who does an excellent job. He may not have the explosive dynamism of the regular art team but his clear, clean style makes it easy to follow the story, a crucial asset in a comic book that features people moving at Mach-3 and molecules warping like taffy.
