Playstation 3 induces PAIN

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced the launch of PAIN on the Playstation Network today. The game is available exclusively through the Playstation Store for Playstation 3. Developed by Denver-based Idol Minds, PAIN has players launch their character from a giant slingshot into a destructible downtown environment loaded with obstacles.

“ Complete with various single player and multiplayer modes, PAIN is a highly creative, comedic experience that invites players to explore the environment on their own, play head-to-head with friends or compete with the masses via the online leaderboards. Additionally, PAIN offers a robust online community that allows players communicate with the development team in-game and online (via www.PAINPS3.com) and provide real-time feedback of their game experience – which characters, real or fictional, they would like to launch, for example.”

PAIN is available for download for $10.99 CAD and is rated T for Teen.

NCsoft lets players turn back time in City of Heroes

Today, for the first time since it purchased the franchise, NCsoft released an update for City of Heroes . The company announced the release of City of Heroes Issue: 11: A Stitch in Time, a new, free expansion for subscribers which provides them with new content, including the ability for heroes and villains to travel back in time to participate in world-altering missions. Also included with the new expansion are a new weapon customization tool and two new power sets and enhancements to the inventions system.

Of course, the headline feature of Issue 11 is the ability to “flashack” in time and participate in events from the histories of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Heroes and villains can also use this feature to play or replay hundreds of missions from earlier in the game. Players will be able to set mission parameters to earn special badges and participants’ levels will be set appropriately to ensure that the challenge of each story-arc remains constant. The two new power sets in the game are called Dual Blades and Willpower. Both are available to melee Archetypes – Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes and Stalkers. Willpower is a new defensive set, which offers a strong mix of resistance, defense and regeneration, and Dual Blades is a new offensive set which lets both Heroes and Villains hold blunt or bladed weapons in each hand, allowing them to dish out massive attacks using the new “combo” combat system.
