Teen Titans # 38
DC COMICS
WRITER: Geoff Johns
ARTISTS: Carlos Ferreira, Art Thibert, Drew Geraci
COVER: Tony Daniels

The Titans squabble with each other and go in search of Raven-- which leads them to Russia and their old comrade, Red Star. The Titans actually spend more time fighting among themselves than they do fighting bad guys. Aside from a brief scene of Red Star in action against some terrorists, most of the issue is filled with arguing and bitterness. There is none of the sense of fun and friendship that set the tone for the Titans in their most successful incarnations. We do learn more about why Raven disappeared and what happened to the Titans in the missing year but this is hardly compelling stuff. It almost reads like the writer is setting the Titans to be disbanded-- permanently. Additionally, the art is a real turn-off. It may be highly detailed but it leaves many of the characters looking very ugly. It also leaves the action looking very stiff. There is a panel which is suppose to show Red Star crashing through a roof but the art makes it look like he was just standing there all along. Okay, this is a fill-in team and they clearly put a lot of effort in their work but it just didn't gel.
