Nikki Harris, the Cybermation Witch, is back in action.  Now, the joys of being a solo hero/lone wolf don’t seem so joyful anymore.  Her dilemmas aside, this is the best Nikki Harris adventure to date.

As The Adventures of Nikki Harris the Cybermation Witch #3 (entitled “Nikki Harris vs. Citizen Cane”) begins, Nikki is finishing off a rogue Mekano-Hound.  Then, after turning down an offer to be part of a law enforcement team, Nikki decides to have fun to get her mind off the lingering doubts about her decision.  She chooses Citizen Cane’s Candy Citadel, an amusement park-sized candy shop (imagine Disney World made out of candy and ice cream with a side of gingerbread house).  Like a hapless Gretel, she partakes of Candy Citadel, unaware that Citizen Cane, (kind of like Willy Wonka as a don) is watching.

Creator Carter Allen manufactures The Adventures of Nikki Harris using digitally produced artwork.  Still, its self-contained, single-issue stories that are full of fight scenes, weird scenarios, kooky characters, and peculiar colors make it an old-fashioned delight.  With each issue, Allen seems to have firmer grasp on the digital tools he uses to create this comic book.  Nikki’s stomping grounds, Dogura Prime, are retro-space age cool and quirky.  Allen’s compositions and now lavish art direction and production design are steadily making The Adventures of Nikki Harris the Cybermation Witch, visually at least, something like Howard Chaykin’s American Flagg!
