Rated “T” for “Teen”

Sawako Kuronuma has jet black hair, and has an apparently gloomy attitude and a sinister smile.  This combination makes her scary … or so her high school classmates think.  They call her “Sadako,” after the haunting horror movie character.  Sadako...err... Sawako is actually a sweet person.  Shota Kazehaya, the most popular boy in school, starts talking to Sawako and her life changes.  Now, they are a couple, getting closer all the time.

As Kimi Ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 29 (Chapters 116 to 119) opens, Sawako, Kazehaya, and their friends take their college entrance exams.  Meanwhile, Ayane Yano is the first to pass her test, but then, things get complicated.  Ayane wants to thank her teacher, Mr. Pin Arai, who helped her, but she also needs to tell him that she is in love with him!  Finally, the kids prepare for the Kitaboro High School graduation ceremony.  How will they say goodbye to one another?

THE LOWDOWN:  The Kimi Ni Todoke manga remains a lovable read, and creator Karuho Shiina always offers a well-crafted romantic narrative.  Sometimes sparkly and bubbly, this series can also be surprisingly poignant.

Kimi Ni Todoke Graphic Novel Volume 29 is the second to last volume of the series.  Readers will likely find that the graduation depicted in this volume summoning up memories of their own graduation.  I have mixed feelings because I was deliriously happy to graduate and to get away from the 'Salem's Lot high school I attended.  The Kitaboro High graduation makes me sad because I wish, just a little, that I could have experienced the happiness Sawako and her  friends did on graduation day.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Readers looking for the best in high school shojo romance will like the Shojo Beat title, Kimi Ni Todoke: From Me to You.
