Rated “T” for “Teen”

Her classmates notice that Sawako Kuronuma has jet black hair, a gloomy attitude, and a sinister smile.  This combination makes her scary … or so her high school classmates think.  They call her “Sadako,” after the haunting horror movie character.  Sadako...err... Sawako is actually a sweet person.  Shota Kazehaya, the most popular boy in school, starts talking to Sawako and her life changes.  Now, they are a couple, getting closer all the time.

Kimi Ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 25 opens after the end of the 44th Kitahoro High School Festival.  Chizuru Yoshida, one of Sawako's girlfriends, and Ryu Sanada, her boyfriend, have reached a crossroads in their relationship.  Ryu wants to play baseball in college, but doing that will take him away from Chizuru, who is not sure that she can support Ryu in baseball, if that means he will leave her.

Meanwhile, Sawako and Kazehaya have been unable to confront each other since Kazehaya made her cry.  Their friends are determined to get them together, even if means the two lovebirds may fight.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Kimi Ni Todoke manga is at the point in the series in which every volume seems pivotal.  It always helps that the romance of Sawako and Kazehaya seems sparkly and fresh every time I read a new volume.

Kimi Ni Todoke Volume 25 is a bit of a downer, although it is a great read.  With the end of high school just months away, couples as well as friends face the prospect of separation, which could be permanent in some cases.  I like that series creator Karuho Shiina does not mind tackling subject matter that turns her sugary romance into something gloomy.  I think gloom simply makes the readers that much more interested in following this series to its conclusion.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Readers looking for the best in high school shojo romance will like the Shojo Beat title, Kimi Ni Todoke: From Me to You.
