This issue focuses exclusively on Floyd Lawton, a.k.a. Deadshot, the team's resident marksman and stone cold killer. He meets with Father (now Reverend) Craemer, the old spiritual adviser from his days in the SUICIDE SQUAD and admits to the preacher that he feels a growing urge to kill people-- not for money, but just randomly kill people.

This story is written by John Ostrander, the guy who made Deadshot come alive in the pages of SUICIDE SQUAD. He returns to familiar ground here, re-examining Deadshot's origin, his background and family and his motives. There are no other members of the Secret Six in this issue. Just Deadshot, wandering the streets and wondering if he should kill people.

If you are a fan of SUICIDE SQUAD and Deadshot, you will love this issue. It has the same atmosphere of bleakness, enlivened with brief flashes of hope, that was a hallmark of the more quiet issues of that title. Even the art looks like it is evoking the minimalist look of the early issues of SUICIDE SQUAD.

Thos who aren't fans of the Squad or Deadshot however may find this issue a bit self-indulgent and might even see it as filler. Floyd barely mentions his new team and no one raises the possibility that his homicidal impulses are caused by his job-- that is to say, working as an amoral mercenary with a bunch of killers and weirdoes.

Basically, the issue helps flesh Floyd out but can't really move him forward. That is the job for the regular SECRET SIX writer. Just the same, for this old fan, it was fun to see a glimpse of the old SUICIDE SQUAD again. Who knows? This may open the door to more appearances by the team.
