Strange happenings are going on as far as the reborn Presence is concerned and the forces arrayed against both Lucifer and the current Queen of Hell Mazikeen make their move.

There's plenty going on in Lucifer #17, "Blood in the Streets Pat Four, Death & Deception," and Richard Kadrey manages to put it all together in a crisp way that moves along sharply. At times it almost feels as if there is too much going on, but the apparent death of a major character manages to provide the necessary pause in the narrative to cause the reader to catch their breath.

Lee Garbett continues to keep a wonderful continuity of look on the series. Garbett's work continues to perfectly suit the book's atmosphere and sense of gothic horror meets seedy L.A. nightlife.

The last page of this issue promises some fireworks next issue between Lucifer and some of his estranged family. "Next: Forms of Fire" seems more than apropos for next issue's title. Lucifer remains a solid read each month.
