More Comics

Wayward
Jim Zub, the busiest Canadian in comics, will release Wayward, his new creator-owned comic book. In Wayward, a group of teenagers living in Japan discover strange powers. Are their powers related to other supernatural manifestations originating from old Japanese mythology? Image Comics will publish Wayward in August 2014.

European Comics

La Technique du périnée
Florent Ruppert and Jérôme Mulot just released La Technique du périnée through Dupuis. It is a visual exploration of mediated electronic sexual relations available since May 9th 2014. La Technique du périnée is about the online courtship and Skype sexting relationship of a man called JH and a woman called Sarah. Sarah challenges JH to remain abstinent as part of a game. Ruppert and Mulot tell their story through a series of metaphors. It’s a visual feast that unfortunately is not yet available in North America (ISBN: 2800160799). This graphic novel is like Moebius meeting Lewis Trondheim.

419 African Mafia

Ankama Éditions has just released 419 African Mafia. It is a new thriller about human smuggling in France intertwined with a love story. Mino a young musician meets Grace, an enslaved Nigerian woman trying to escape from her plight. Loulou Décola writes this graphic novel drawn by Lelio Bonasccorso. The 64 pages graphic novel (ISBN: 9782359104660) is not yet available in North America.

This is the second volume Famille Pirate (The Pirate Family) adapting the popular cartoon as a comic book. Again, this comic book is still not available for the North American market (ISBN: 2205071742)

Comics to Television

JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time
Earlier in January, Warner Brothers Home Entertainment released JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time exclusively to Target stores. Warner did not promote this direct to store DVD featuring the Legion of Super Heroes’ Karate Kid and Dawnstar against Lex Luthor. Warner will release the 44 minutes JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time on DVD on May 20, 2014. The cartoon is more children-friendly than Justice League Unlimited or Young Justice. It features Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Robin. It feels like an updated Super Friends cartoon. In fact, Warner is adding two bonus episodes from the Super Friends cartoon in the set. First is The Mysterious Time Creatures from The All - New Super Friends Hour and Elevator to Nowhere from Super Friends.

Batman

We tweeted it yesterday as soon as it came out but if you haven’t seen it, here is a picture of the new Batman costume for the next Superman movie. Director Zack Snyder too the monochrome shot and posted it on Twitter.

Gambit Movie
Channing Tatum will replace actor Taylor Kitsch as Gambit in an X-Men spinoff movie featuring the Cajun mutant. Tatum told MTV that he wanted to play Gambit in the past. Tatum is miscast but we will soon see if he can play the scrawny acrobatic mutant in a future Gambit movie.
