Legion of Superheroes # 11 DC Comics WRITER: Mark Waid ARTISTS: Barry Kitson, Mick Gray COVER: Barry Kitson
The 31st century is no utopia and it seems to be getting worse every minute. The Legion are on the ropes as they send teams to different planets in an attempt to rally the United Planets to stand up to the imminent threat of a conqueror called Lemmnos. This issue has some of the strangest visuals seen in a mainstream, non-prestige format comic book and Waid's story is every big as imaginative. Some times, the complexity of the art and story get a little too much to understand but Waid keeps his characters interesting and does try to fill everyone in on what is happening. Perhaps even more interesting than the main story is the "back-up" tale, featuring some wannabee Legion members rescuing each other from Lemmnos's attack. In that tale, the creators pay homage to the old comics creators even while throwing a strong challenge to readers that the future is going to be very different. It is rare to see writers and artists who dare the reader to enjoy them.
