I was thinking about my role at the bin just the other day, and something occurred to me. What occurred to me was that if I were the one coming here to read the gaming section, I wouldn't really take my advice with that much enthusiasm. Why?
The answer to that is simple, it's because I wouldn't know who was writing it.
Let me ask you this, when you go over to one of the major gaming site's and read a review, do you have any indication of who it was written by? Or at the very least, did you look and see what their name was? For some of you the answer here is yes, and that's great, but I'm sure for many of you, it's no.
The problem here is that unlike many of the other facets of gaming (I'm mainly speaking about journalism here) Review's are personal opinions. If you don't have some indication about the person behind the review, then why would you take their advice? For example, let's say your in a store looking at shoes and some random person walks up to you and says, hey, those are awesome, you should buy them. Would you do it, probably not! So with that in mind, why would you read a game review from someone you don't even know, and trust it enough to go out and spend $50? You do it because you automatically assume that because it's written on a major site, it's all going to be peachy.
For the hardcore gamer, reviews are a must. Their is just too much stuff out their and not enough time. I want to know when I buy a game, that the majority opinion is that it's good. So when I read a review, I want to say to myself, hey, I like this person, their opinion matters to me.
That takes us into the point of this article, I want to give you some kind of idea of who I am, so maybe it can lead to you building some level of trust with me.
I'm 23, my favourite genres of games are RPG's, Action and Adventure games. I'm not too big into Sports games, but I play them every once in a while. I'm mostly a Console gamer but I have a lot of respect for PC gaming. I've been playing games for 17 years but more seriously for 7. The thing I value most in games are Story and Atmosphere. I'm not a fanboy of any sort, I have no bias towards anything or anyone, the whole point here is to play videogames and enjoy yourself, so why would anything else matter? My favourite games of all time are: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy VII & X, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Metal Gear Solid and Lunar SSSC.
I go through hot and cold periods with gaming, for 2 or 3 months straight I’ll play and obsess about gaming non-stop, but then, I quit for a little while before coming back. I'm not a completist, meaning, I don't have an obsession with completing every aspect of a game and I only play through games once, unless it's a sports game or a fighting game.
Some of my other interests include, Anime, Manga, Comics, Poker, foreign movie's such as Hong Kong action movies and Combat Sports, like Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing.
I don't consider myself that great a writer, I'm just a person who knows and love's this industry so much, I find the power to string sentences together in a way that's somewhat understandable.
The News Article that I write is a compilation of the entire week, it is released late Friday nights or early Saturdays. The news I post is only what I consider important and I keep it short.
The Reviews I write are also simplistic in nature, covering what I consider the most important aspect's of what make or break a game. This starts with a general overview of the game and its development team, gameplay and story, graphics, sound, negatives and finally a conclusion. With a few things thrown in here and their. You may notice that I give a lot of games high scores here, that's mainly because as a gamer just like you, I try and only buy the good stuff.
Other then that I can say that I’m a very likable guy and willing to chat with anyone at anytime, in fact, why don't you head over to the
