This issue is a walk down memory lane which also sets the stage for the new JLA comic. There is no real story. Instead, there are series of flashbacks to the past and flashforwards into possible futures, where we see how Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have been interacting, keeping the JLA alive all these years. Newcomers will feel lost as there is some fudging between pre-Crisis and post-Crisis continuity but old-timers will be moved to see the depth of the friendship between the big three and how it has evolved and will continue to evolve over the years. It is certainly refreshing to see them all as friends, rather than as bitter rivals that we saw during the CRISIS. The art is a bit choppy as each artist gets only a few pages to capture a certain "period" in the JLA's history. Some of the artists don't really seem to be trying though. In one apparent last minute repair-job, a yellow oval is crudely superimposed over Batman's chest symbol to remind us that this scene took place during the years of the "Detroit League." This is an intriguing issue but it can't take the place of a real story. Hopefully, we will get that when issue number one finally rolls around.
