Atlantis Studios announces the release of “Trapped in the Flames” an original live action short film based on the popular comic book The Adventures of Paula Peril.  The seven-minute action-adventure is available for download exclusively at www.atlantisstudios.net/paulaperil for only $4.95. It is directed by industry veteran Bill McClelland and stars actress Valerie Perez in the danger-prone title role.

“We thought that producing a short film would be a unique way to promote the release of Paula Peril #3 which goes on sale in June”, explains series creator James Watson, “This film tells an original story not found in the comic. It introduces mobster Tony Carleoni, a villain who will become a recurring character in the series. He is Paula’s ruthless nemesis and will stop at nothing to prevent her from penetrating his criminal network.”

The film is produced as a partnership with Valerie Perez and Granted Wish Studios, the production company which recently produced the ambitious Tomb Raider fan film “Tears of the Dragon” www.tearsofthedragon.com. The popular model stars as Paula Peril, but also contributed significantly to the film’s special effects and costume design. “I love playing a role like this.” Says Valerie, “Paula is strong, smart and extremely lucky, a great action-adventure hero in the tradition of Nancy Drew or Indiana Jones.  She has tremendous obstacles to overcome to get her stories, but in the end she makes the bad guys pay for the abuse they put her through!”

It also features the directing debut of Bill McClelland who has worked on numerous television and movie projects, but was tapped this time to find ways to make a low-budget action film using guerilla film-making techniques. “This film was produced for about the cost of a professional comic book.” McClelland commented, “We had to innovate and find creative ways to get the effects called for in the script.  Many people volunteered their time, spending long hours in pre and post-production. We’re grateful to all of them for lending their talent to the project.”

The Adventures of Paula Peril is an action-packed series that has been described as Indiana Jones meets Nancy Drew, with art by veteran Seppo Makinen (Sherlock Holmes), inker Rob Ewing (Kelly Belle), and many other artists. Each issue features the pulp-inspired adventures of a determined young reporter who finds herself in the middle of every story she covers, be it ruthless gangsters or supernatural mysteries.
