Rated “YA” for “Young Adults 16+”

Haruhiko Kanou is a high school student with a penchant for fixing and building mechanical and electrical appliances.  He also holds the power of the late demon lord, Fulcanelli, in his body.  Fulcanelli’s demon lady friend, Eukanaria, wants to expel Haruhiko’s soul from his body and use Haruhiko’s body as a vessel for Fulcanelli’s soul.  Haruhiko also bears a striking resemblance to Fulcanelli, and Eukanaria looks like Yuka Fujikawa.  Yuka was a childhood friend of Fujikawa, and she is six years older than him; now, she’s his high school teacher and she has strong feelings for him.  Lets the battle of wits and wiles begin!

Enchanter, Vol. 6 finds a rival girl demon, Lavoix, plotting to drain Haruhiko’s body of Fulcanelli’s power, which she will use to return to her home dimension, and Haruhiko’s friend, Adolph, is helping her.  Meanwhile, Haruhiko begins combat training with Yamato.

THE LOWDOWN:  Coming into the middle of Enchanter, I had a difficult time getting a feel for the series.  I especially had a hard time figuring out the various subplots, although I think I have grasped a good idea on the series’ overarching plot and concept.  I do, however, like the characters.  If there is one thing that is consistent throughout these chapters that make up Enchanter 6, it’s the characterization.  Also, the fanservice, teasing, and cheesecake are nice.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  If Enchanter were published by VIZ Media, it would probably be part of VIZ’s “Shonen Jump Advanced” line of shounen manga for older male teen readers.  In terms of the amount of innuendo and fanservice, Enchanter is similar in tone to Yasuhiro Kano’s Pretty Face.
