The Society of Super Villain has set a trap for the Birds of Prey putting them in direct confrontation with Black Alice, the magic wielder. However, setting a trap for such a powerful magician is a big task as everybody is afraid of Black Alice. Will Black Alice destroy the Birds of Prey?

Black Alice is back in the Birds of Prey. Simone never lets a little subplot linger long or characters making cameo stay too far from the central stage. The beginning of the story is quiet and helps give even more characterization to the characters. I wish they would do more with Gypsy as we still have idea why she chose to join the Birds of Prey. Ditto for Lady Blackhawk. Instead of focusing on Black Canary who has had tremendous exposure, why not focus on these characters for once.

I’m not sure what happened to the artwork this issue but it improved compared with the last one. The inking is crispier and the storytelling better. It seems like this team is coming of age and creating its own dynamic away from the Ed Benes’ look that seemed to have been imposed on them by their editor. It’s a good risk to take.
