The X-Men are staging their last fight against the vampire hordes on Utopia island which outnumber them. The vampires are lead by Wolverine recently turned into a vampire after searching for Jubilee. Can the X-Men withstand such an attack from such numerous foes?

I didn’t like how this series started. It was an unnecessary X-Men series playing with vampires. Well this issue was quite better than I expected. I could argue that every new issue of this series has been better than the last. That’s always a good thing. I’ll also say that of the two main X-Men series, this one is the most entertaining. I dreaded the confrontation of Wolverine versus Cyclops. What I didn’t like was how Wolverine was being portrayed as this unbeatable opponent when in reality, he’s just a guy with knives. But this comic book is hardly the only one to treat the character as such a menace. The recent Wolverine and the X-Men animated series did the same. Wolverine’s stint as an Avenger portrays him the same. There’s no variation, nothing special. He’s his universe’ Batman. The one guy that can defeat anyone else, even when he should be a splatter of blood after confronting most of these mutants with high levels of powers.  I like how Cyclops was in control of the situation the entire issue and was a few steps in front of the vampires at every turn. Although the way he shut down the vampiric Wolverine opens the possibility that this dues ex machine will be exploited a lot in the future.

I like Medina’s work. One word to describe it – rich. It’s full of textured lines and energy that makes the comic book pages move forward. It feels like they are trapping the reader’s gaze in a maze of wonder forcing him to read every panel and be delighted. Woah, that was was poetic! Well, this issue was great visually.

Rating: 9 /10
