The Binquirer, August 6 Edition: Diamond market share analysis, Karl Kesel collection, Allred news, The Batman in 2016, and much more!

DC Comics:

DC once again edged out Marvel in Diamond's market share analysis for July 2012, with Batman: Earth One dominating graphic novel sales and DC Comics filling six of the top ten individual comic sales positions (without claiming any of the top three, mind you; those went to the number one-seller The Walking Dead #100 and runners-up Avengers vs. X-Men #7 and 8).

We'd reported a few weeks ago that DC's New 52 Third Wave number ones, out in October, were being made returnable for retailers, but now DC is extending the return policy to September's Third Wave number zeros. The third wave in question includes four new titles: Phantom Stranger, Sword of Sorcery, Talon, and Team 7. The return policy aids retailers with offloading unwanted excesses in stock.

Who is Baz? That's the question on everyone's lips concerning the new Green Lantern, who made an appearance in DC's Free Comic Book Day issue in May and will be coming to the Green Lantern series on October 3, 2012. Only time (and "The Third Army" crossover/one of those preemptive DC spoilers) will tell.



Marvel Comics:

Mike Allred is really making a Marvel comeback, between illustrating the hotly-anticipated Daredevil #17, his newly announce Marvel NOW! project with Matt Fraction, and now this: Allred will be providing guest artwork for Jason Aaron's Wolverine and the X-Men #17, which will feature Doop, a character created by Allred and who had a lengthy tenure on Allred and Peter Milligan's X-Force and later X-Statix.



More Comics:

In other Allred news: The Tick's 100th issue featured a team-up with Robert Kirkman's Image superhero Invincible, and now writer Benito Cereno and New England Comics have announced another NEC/Image Comics crossover in The Tick #101: Tick and Mike Allred's Madman! NEC teases 102 as another crossover issue, but that book's guest star has yet to be revealed.

Nigh-legendary comic creator Karl Kesel, who led an iconic run on DC's Superboy, is parceling off his Silver Age Marvel Comics collection to pay for medical expenses for his adopted son in excess of $50,000. As CBR reports, the baby, Isaac, is home and healthy with Kesel and his wife now, but underwent a lengthy and costly hospitalization and detox process after being born to a woman who was battling heroin addiction. You can purchase items from Karl's collection at Blastoff Comics. There's some wonderful stuff there for quite a bargain. Please do check it out. If you're a collector, you won't be sorry you did.

Mass Effect comic artist Garry Brown will be replacing Kristian Donaldson on the Dark Horse series The Massive, written and created by Brian Wood. Brown takes over illustrations for the book with issue 4, due out on September 12. (CBR)



Film and Television:

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon is set to debut on Nickelodeon Saturday, September 29.

Cosmic Book News stirred the pot recently with their rumors of a Batman film reboot hitting theaters as soon as 2016 and going so far as to imply the film won't be an origin story. We weren't able to find substantial evidence that this wasn't more than speculation that spread like world wide web wildfire. In any case, the Dark Knight will most likely be returning to the big screen prior to 2016 in the upcoming Justice League film.

CBN also claimed that a source had told them that director Marc Webb did in fact leave the Amazing Spider-Man franchise and Total Recall director Len Wiseman would be taking his place for the sequel.

The Dark Knight Rises rose above its competition for a third weekend straight, raking in $36 million in the US, which brings its current worldwide gross to $730 million.
