In a tie-in with INFINITE CRISIS, we have the Golden-Age Superman go up against his modern-day counterpart. But each time they make contact, we get a flashback to the early days of Kal-L, his arrival on Earth, his trip to Metropolis, meeting Lois, the JSA, fighting in World War II. It is a bit confusing, as though we were seeing excerpts of a larger story-- which we are. The different art styles used throughout the story are a bit jarring. The transitions from one artist to another are not too smooth. Newcomers will also be mystified as to how Superman could be active in the 1940s but old-timers will enjoy this alternate take on the man of steel and will be intrigued as to how the original Superman will come out at the end of this CRISIS.
