Lana Lang, having collapsed last issue with a strange ailment gets treated and released from Ellsworth Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, but to the concern of Jimmy Olsen and Cat Grant, is tight lipped about her collapse and what is ailing her.  Meanwhile, Supergirl and Superwoman’s (whose identity was revealed last issue) confrontation is observed by General Lane from his spy headquarters, the outcome of which proves to be tragic for all involved and a bit of a shock as well.

Just how good is Supergirl right now?  Good enough to rank near the top of the weekly reading stack.  In Gate’s very capable hands, Kara Zor El is soaring to storytelling heights that were once reserved for her big cousin, and taking us with her.  Poor Kara though, she’s really getting put through the ringer.  The strength of the storytelling, unfortunately, is derived from Kara’s recent dramatic and traumatic life events.  While she has shown that she has taken steps towards maturation, she, very obviously, is still a conflicted teen who has a great deal of family, let alone superhero, dilemmas to deal with, and as is evidenced by the events of this issue, she still needs to learn to govern her reactions better.  As if Kara didn’t have enough problems, most quite serious in nature, it looks like things are going to get a great deal worse before they get better.

Dagnino’s pencils and layouts continue to impress and paired with Ruffino’s colors create a great mix of shadow and light that fit the pacing and theme of this issue’s events.

Overall, we truly have a story that is an interesting mix of action, mystery, tragedy and drama of a high quality, which fits into the continuity of the current Superman Family books perfectly, while standing out all on its own as solo read in Supergirl.  Great comics leave readers clamoring for more, and after this issue, never has this been the case with Supergirl as strongly.
