A Wonder Woman story before Wonder Woman. You may ask isn’t that like a batman story without batman? Maybe but I propose the history and mythology of the Amazons are rich enough to interest comic collectors without the need for the most famous Amazonian princess.

The first issue of Odyssey of the Amazons is a visual history of the women of Themyscira the noble women warriors known as Amazons.  And this comic highlights Greek mythology and cross references it with Norse mythology. It is an origin story and a year zero for wonder woman’s people, and the publication timing is excellent as it serves to get people ready for the upcoming movie in the spring providing much needed background. Also as alluded to without giving away the plot there is a deep interesting story begun here.

Benjamin's art is clearly influenced by John Romita Jr.  Which is very apt for this comic as it is beautiful but not clean and crisp. The rawness of his pencils matches the violent themes and story. Overall this may not be a flagship DC title but it is definitely worth reading by hard-core and casual fans of wonder woman.
