Part two of Superman’s origin, 2017. This portion follows his debut, reminiscent of Superman – The Movie, rather than saving the space-plane as John Byrne related in Man of Steel (1986). So despite some claims, it’s not quite the post-Crisis Superman people have been jabbering about.

Regardless, Superman is back and the New 52 version is little more than a speed bump in his overall history. We all have periods of our past we’d rather ignore, but they also comprise to make us who we are now. Perhaps had DC not taken Superman down the New 52 road, he would have stagnated. In time it will be a dimly remembered period of an American classic; like New Coke.

Superman revisits much of his Post-Crisis history: his death at the hands of Doomsday, his resurrection, his marriage to Lois, and the birth of their son Jon. Meanwhile, the mysterious entity who has been gathering Superman foes is revealed, as well as his motives, setting the stage for the next major story arc.

At the risk of damning with faint praise, Carlo Barberi’s artwork is serviceable. Faint because it’s only one chapter. Let me see more, to better judge how well I like it.
