Sometimes there’s a lull in the action. An interlude while various characters re-position themselves on stage for the next big moment in a story. It’s necessary, because all action, all the time would be impossible to maintain. That’s the case in this issue of (ironically) Action Comics.

The book is currently a bit of an ensemble title. It’s supposed to star Superman, but supporting characters such as Perry White and the recently re-introduced Rose & Thorn are getting quite a bit of screen time. In fact, the Daily Planet is as much a character as the Enterprise on Star Trek. I don’t mind that as long as it serves the story, and whether it does or not here is difficult to say, until the story concludes.

For those following the Leviathan storyline (here and elsewhere) a few more clues are sprinkled about. And of course there’s the obligatory Luther brings someone a gift scene that’s been in just about every DC title for the past several weeks. It’s getting to the point where I hardly take notice of those.

Last time, I commented on Kudranski’s artwork. I like it better this issue, as it seems the aspects for which I did not care are far less noticeable, and other qualities have come to the fore. I would consider this the evolution of an artist, in regards to either his skill or the task before him. If he continues on this path, I’m sure he has bright career ahead.

Rating: 6/10
