Lost In Space: Voyage To The Bottom of The Soul

Lost In Space was a popular television series in the late 1960s about the Robinson family, their pilot, Major Don west and stowaway, Colonel Zachary Smith were launched in space set to go the Alpha Centauri system and colonize it. The series that aired on CBS has remained a cult favourite, even though younger guys like this reviewer knew nothing about them before reading this collected edition.
Voyage to The Bottom of The Soul has had a spotty existence as a comic book series. The first six issues of this graphic novel were published in the 1990s by defunct comic book publisher Innovation Comics. It took another ten years before Bubblehead Publishing, headed by the son of comic book artists John Severin assembled the team again and allowed the 12-issue series to resume its course.
In Lost In Space: Voyage To The Bottom of The Soul, the family has aged and they finally reached the Alpha Centauri system, very late. Opening their original mission’s order, the Professor John Robinson, wife Dr Maureen Robinson, their three children, Judy, Penny, Will as well as Major West and Dr Smith, fall prey to a trap set by the very aliens responsible for their journey to the stars. The family is displaced through time and space on different world and left to fend off for itself.
Mummy’s goal with this series was to present an updated look of the family. Fortunately, for Mumy, updated does not mean revisionism. The characters are the same but much older. They are allowed to love each other and natives they meet, while attempting to survive in unknown environments. This story is rea long epic where courage and great human values are put at the forefront. This is a great book for newer and older fans of Lost in Space.
The artwork is filled with lush and vibrant pencils renditions that respect the characters likeness, although they aged. The colours, also rendered by Dutkiewicz all have moods helping set the tone of the story. In this story, several new characters are introduced and they all feel as alive as the real actors upon which the Robinson family is based on. This book will become one of the treasures of my personal graphic novel collection.
