Philip Schweier was the first recruit at ComicBookBin. He started contributing articles in 2003 when the site was a small mish mash of news and commentary about comics. Thankfully, Philip is still with ComicBookBin 9 years later. That’s a feat.

Philip was a pre-press designer who used to work for a big news daily in Savannah, Georgia. Although he didn’t hail from the peach state, he has lived there most of his adult life with his wife. Training in traditional pre-press for daily newspaper is a dying art, as the print news industry is tumbling all over the world due to competition from Web-based newscasters. Philip, a graduate from The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has had to recast his career as a Web and designer and webmaster for similar news organizations around Savannah Georgia, and beyond.

Philip is older than the median age of ComicBookBin writers and thus has the kind of experience about comics and popular culture that few can aspire to. He knows things about comics-related properties that many younger fans just don’t know about. But what is more impressive is Philip’s love for the topics he covers and his ability to convey loads of information in a few lines. Philip is probably the authority on anything DC Comics’ related. He has an encyclopedic mind and the bragging right of having witnessed much of the last 40 years of comic book history first hand.

Philip also contributes to other comics-related media that can still support print distribution. Surely, you will have come across one of his articles in Back Issue magazine. What sets Philip apart from most comic book reporters is that he was trained the good old way about news reporting. He brings to his work professional ethics and fact checking that goes beyond the usual quick glance at Wikipedia.

Philip Schweier writes mostly in the Nostalgia column published at ComicBookBin. The column used to be named the Thought Bubble, if you’re an old timer looking for it now. Thoughtfulness is indeed the main charm and quality of Philip Schweier. Thank you Phil.

Who's Who @ComicBookBin is a feature celebrating the 10th anniversary of ComicBookBin where publisher Hervé St-Louis features writers past and present that have contributed to ComicBookBin over the years.
