If you are like me, and you are a huge fan of Mattel and Toy Biz (soon to be Hasbro) action figures that are based on comic book characters, then this may appeal to you. Many times I have foud most of my favorite toys in bulk at Wal-Mart. Many of my Marvel Legends build-a-figure sets and other items have been purchased at Wal-Mart, primarily through the use of their lay-a-way system. Outside of the Onslaught series which I purchased at Toys "R" Us, I get most of my figures at Wal-Mart. The whole Apocalypse series, the entire Sentinel series, 5 out of 7 of the Galactus series, 9 out of 10 of the Giant-Man series, and even 4 of the current 6 figure set of the Mojo series have been placed on layaway in order for me to purchase the whole or the majority of each series. Layway has been a huge help to me and many others as it allows you the time to hold and secure the items that you want and then come back at a later date to pick them all up.
Well the bad news is that as of Novemeber 19, 2006, the layaway department will be no more. After November 19, you have until the 8th of December to pick up the rest of your layaway items. And that eaves consumers with only two options:
a) Those who can get credit can apply for Wal-Mart's no charge in-store credit plan, or
b) Start buying the Wal-Mart gift card(s) and continually load them up until you have the money to buy whole sets of items in one shot. Needless to say, christmas time will never be the same again for action figure collectors. On the "B"-side of things, for those who don't mind paying an extra $2.00 per figure, there is always K-Mart .... they still have layaway.
