TEEN TITANS GO! #4

TEEN TITANS GO! #4 features an entire guest art team, the incomparable John McCrea of HITMAN fame and inker James Hodgkins. This issue's tale, "The Crummy Valentine," I believe to also be loosely based on an episode of "Teen Titans," but this "adaptation" is better than issue three's tale.

Torres's script here is manic and loony, a crazy little romp through the Titans' world. Torres' interplay between the characters favorably reminds me of such classic intra-team dynamics as the Claremont/Byrne X-Men and the Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans.

But McCrea does manage to steal Torres' thunder. His art is peculiar amalgam of the TV show's visual flair, Nauck, manga, anime, alternative cartooning, and gag strips. It's the kind of thing only an artist with company cred could get away with because it's so strange. It's fun; it's loopy. And it's crazier than Torres's story. It's puts the fun back in comic books.
[DRECK, DULL READABLE, VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT]
