TEEN TITANS GO! is the comic book tie-in or adaptation of the popular Cartoon Network animated series “Teen Titans.” Although I’m not a regular viewer of the show, I have really liked every episode I’ve seen.

This issue’s story is mostly light fair, but the J. Torres’ script is quite well structured. The dialogue is not only funny, but also captures the characters’ personalities from the TV program and fits them for a comic book. Most important is that Torres seems to be in step with his co-creator, artist Todd Nauck. There is a rhythm to this comic that comes when a writer and an artist are separate but are able to work as if they were a single cartoonist.

I’d ignored the talented Nauck until this book. Nauck’s pencils ably mimic the cartoony or animated signature style for which Cartoon Network’s DC-based shows are known. His own unique touch recalls Joe Madureira’s mid-90’s UNCANNY X-MEN work, anime and manga, and Bruce Timm. Frankly, it’s gorgeous. Any comic reader who watches the Titans toon will likely enjoy this. Sadly, a lot of the show’s non-comic reading audience might also like the comic, if only they could find it.
[DRECK, DULL, READABLE, VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT]
