ABADAZAD #2

The all-new fantasy thriller continues! Whooshed straight out of Brooklyn, 14 year-old Kate finds herself in the magical land she's known only as fiction! Will she find help in the sky-city Inconceivable…or will her little brother Mattie forever be lost to her?

After the way issue #1 had absorbed me into the sentiment of Abadazad, I was eager to see how the story was continued. Now Kate was actually in the world she thought didn't exist, it was interesting to see how the dynamic changed. The most compelling part of the issue was the narration, which gave you an insight into Kate's mindset. She doggedly held herself back from embracing the fact that what was in front of her was real. If the truth will set you free, will Kate now wish she didn't believe?

The art and its colour scheme really made me reminisce about The Wizard Of Oz, when Dorothy got to Oz and it went to colour. It was bright and vibrant and did indeed invoke the feel of a fantasy world. Ploog didn't seem to capture the emotion within Kate as well as Butch Guice had in the first issue and instead she seemed to have more of a doe eyed look. However Ploog's rendition of Queen Ija on the cover was the complete opposite.
