NXY #7
The finale that you’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! Kiden, X-23 and crew take on Zebra Daddy and his gang in the greatest knock down, drag ‘em out showdown ever before seen this side Houston. Complete with body snatching, heavenly fathers, beastly transformation, and one or two harmless little claw marks, the final installment of Marvel’s most magnificent must have is guaranteed to have them talking for time to come.

Well, the Marvel intro is pretty captivating, makes your mouth water even, with anticipation. It’s a shame then, that when you get to the end of the issue, the show didn’t live up to the billing. The story moves along at a steady pace and is, apart from a few places, easy enough to follow. It’s just that, it doesn’t really carry any conviction (the delays could be the factor for this). Everything seems too over the top, so you’re no longer gripped, like you were with the early issues. Maybe the ending will lead to more interesting things, we’ll just have to wait.

Unfortunately, you can’t always judge a book by its cover :( (Yes, I know the covers by Joshua Middleton) Just like the story, the issues pencils seem to be a bit of a mess. They feel rather disjointed and there’s a distinct flatness to everything. It comes off as rushed and sometimes it’s hard to make out what’s going on. The only nice thing is towards the end when Kiden uses her powers. It’s a real shame, too, as up until this point, there was a real nice feel to everything.
