Tomasi Leaves DC Comics

DC Comics announced today that long-time editor Peter Tomasi has signed an exclusive contract to write for the publisher and will be leaving his position as Senior Editor.
 
Tomasi had been an editor with DC Comics for 15 years, having edited many outstanding titles, including Garth Ennis’ Hitman, James Robinson’s Starman, Grant Morrison’s Seven Soldiers and Paul Dini’s recent run on Detective Comics. Tomasi was currently the editor of Batman, Detective Comics, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Robin and Nightwing.
 
“To say it's a bit strange leaving a place you've enjoyed working at—and grew up in for that matter—for almost 15 years would be an understatement,” said Tomasi. “It's still hard to imagine not coming into the office on a daily basis and putting together a comic book from scratch. I've said it before in interviews over the years, but a job where you can produce something tangible for someone's enjoyment is simply a great thing and truly satisfying in so many ways. I am going to miss every facet of it.”
 
Tomasi will write DCU monthly titles and several other projects, including an already-announced Black Adam mini-series, starting later this year. Tomasi is no stranger to comic book writing, having written for DC Comics in the past on such titles as JSA, The Outsiders, and Steel and also creating the highly-acclaimed original graphic novel, Light Brigade.

His original screenplay, House of Penance (working title), a horror/drama about the Winchester Mystery House, was purchased by Andrew Lauren Productions, the production company behind the Academy Award-nominated film, The Squid and the Whale.  


“I am looking forward to bringing new stories and ideas to the grand mythology that is the DCU and Vertigo”, Tomasi says, “And to be able to contribute from both sides of the desk during my career in comics is incredibly lucky and means a lot to me, so I would like to thank Paul Levitz and Dan DiDio for making this happen.”
 
“We’re sorry to lose an editor of Peter’s ability,” said Dan DiDio, Senior Vice-President and Executive Editor – DCU. “But at the same time, we’re thrilled to welcome a writer of his caliber to DC.”
