This is a great jump off for this new series! Bendis works his magic expertly. We are given the premise and introduced to some of the main characters, without the book being bogged down. Bendis writes a great Jonah, the infusion of brash pig headed self determination and the people skills of a rock are evident in everything he says. And the conversations he has with Jessica and Ben are classic. There was also a good use of continuity at the beginning with the newspaper stories. I can't wait for Kat (reporter from Deadline) to join the cast either. And you have to give it up for the ending as well.
I have to admit that it was strange as hell to see Jessica, Luke and Ben drawn by Bagley. Not because he can't, but because you become so used to Gaydos' renditions and Bagley's Ultimate Spider-man versions. The art was good though. Jessica at the beginning did look like she was on something, with her big bulging eyes. But Bagley can capture the being of a person. If you look at Robbie, he exhumes warmth, while Jonah, definitely has sharp edges. Also have to give props to Mayhew and Troy for the great cover. Spider-man really looks like he's swinging at you.
