With each issue of Kyle Baker's PLASTIC MAN, either the turn of events or something sweet that Baker does with the story surprises me. This time I marveled at how effective issue five's little whodunit is and how well Baker played the supporting characters. They are as intriguing as the titular hero, and a good supporting cast can make a book. The writing is top notch, and the art has a lively quality like feature animation, but an animated feature might have hundreds of artists drawing it. Baker gets the same effect as a one-man show and proves Al Capp's adage about the superiority of the man who can write and draw - the cartoonist.
